Anyone who has seen K. Michelle on ‘Love & Hip Hop’ knows that she can start a fire. The R&B star does not bite her tongue when she is passionate about a subject, and is known as the personality who keeps it “real.” Although she has become popular for her no-nonsense attitude, Michelle tells media that her ‘Love & Hip Hop’ spin-off will be less dramatic and more about her role as a recording artist and mother.
“I’m a mother, I’m an artist. So it’s time for them to see that other things are brought to the forefront more. We already know that I will offer you a verbal lashing that will send you back to your mama. We know that,” says the star.
In speaking more about her music career, Michelle tells the press that she has high hopes of collaborating with a few artists in the industry someday. “Nicki Minaj, definitely,” exclaims the star. “Nicki Minaj, to me, I love how she’s built this empire and the girl is really, really talented – one of the best lyricists that I’ve heard in a long time. I would really love to collaborate with her. Also recently, Anita Baker—that’s someone I grew up with.”
Although she is often in the studio working hard to progress in the industry, K. Michelle does not forget family matters when it comes to her son. “[It’s] really a lot to you know, have to see your child through Skype,” says the star of her and Chase’s current living situation. The singer has decided to send her son to Memphis to live with her parents during the school year so that he can receive a good education and home cooked meals after school. Even though the distance saddens her, she tells media that she knows her sacrifice is “for the betterment of him.”
You can expect to see K. Michelle’s struggles with mothering from afar and more when her reality show entitled ‘K. Michelle: My Life’ premieres on VH1 in November.
