Talented twins Imani and Nia Lindsay are taking the world of dance by storm. The 10-year-old siblings are gifted dancers, specializing in jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary and acrobatics. They were recently awarded a scholarship into the very prestigious “Young Dancer Summer Workshop” at The American Ballet Theatre.
The girls live in Canada with their mother, who is a former dancer herself. They recently visited New York for an audition and sat down with Urban Bush Babes to talk about their accomplishments, how to stay positive, and their beautiful big hair. Although they were excited by the prospect of one day dancing in the Big Apple, Nia was quickly added, “but I really like my company in Canada because it’s very very good.”
While dancing so many styles must be great, the young ladies do admit it’s a lot of work. When asked how much they practiced, they responded by saying “a lot. Like five times a week,” with multiple classes per day. They also have their favourites – contemporary for Imani, and acrobatics for Nia.
These starlets are obviously no stranger to the limelight. Nia and Imani were also two of the original babies in the role of Baby Sarah on the UPN series Kevin Hill, starring Taye Diggs. At only five, Nia was featured in The Vagina Monologues, reading “A 6-Year-Old Was Asked” at the Ryerson Theatre. They have certainly learned a lot about hard work in their short lives. “It’s good to work for it,” Nia explained. She elaborated by noting that if you stop working for things you stop getting them, which is upsetting. “So you have to keep working all the time,” she concluded.
