It’s not just a book, it’s a revolution!” says Kid President who is authoring his very first novel. The Guide to Being Awesome, is 240 pages of motivational, inspirational, and hilarious tips and stories for all ages. It’s purpose? Like the web-show that gave rise to it, The Guide seeks to teach people how to better the world by being awesome, and helping others in the process.
Ten year old Robby Novak has been spreading his positive message with excitement since the creation of his show back in 2012. It is co-created by his brother-in-law, Brad Montague, and airs on actor Rainn Wilson’s YouTube channel, SoulPancake. Their official website reads: “We’re doing this because we believe kids can change the world. We also believe grown ups can change the world. It just takes all of us working together.”
The idea for Kid President was developed when Brad and his wife launched GO! Camp, a place where children wanting to change the world could share and process creative ideas. After seeing the kids flourish, Brad decided it was time to give kids a real voice. Robby Novak was the perfect choice. Brad explained:
Robby, age 10, is my little brother-in-law. He’s full of life and ideas. Robby has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) a brittle bone condition which has resulted in him having over 70 breaks since birth. What’s inspiring about Robby isn’t his condition, but the fact that his condition doesn’t define who he is. In spite of all he’s been through he not only keeps going – he dances.
It’s no wonder that Robby’s positive energy has become such a sensation. His words are both fun, and powerful; his attitude uplifting. The Guide to Being Awesome, will surely be no exception. David Linker, of the publishing house HarperCollins Children’s Books, said, “if anyone can make the world more awesome just by writing a book, it’s Kid President.” The book will hit stands February of 2015, but is now available for pre-sale through various online book distributers, such as Amazon.
