Toni Braxton shares her deepest secrets in her new memoir, Ubreak My Heart. The singer not only talks about her struggles in the music industry but also delves into life as mom of an autistic son.
“Is God punishing me for that abortion?,” says Braxton of her response when she learned that her son Diezel had autism. “[I] believed that God’s payback was to give my son autism.”
Although Bible study classes and time has helped relieve some of the guilt, Braxton is still inclined to place part of the blame for Diezel’s autism on MMR vaccination. “Maybe it’s just a coincidence that after my son’s first MMR vaccine, I began to notice changes in him,” writes the star in her book.
Toni Braxton has been in the fight to spread awareness about autism ever since her son was diagnosed a few years back. The star has been joined by Holly Robinson-Peete and other celebrities whose kids deal with the effects of autism at many community events. One out of 68 children are diagnosed with autism every year. Hundreds more go untreated because parents are not aware of the disorder’s symptoms.
Toni Braxton has two kids, Diezel and Denim, with ex-husband Keri Lewis.
