The past few months have been rough for Usher Raymond. Not only did the R&B sensation lose his grandmother a few months back, but he has also been forced to watch as his son battles it out with Type 1 Diabetes.
Usher revealed that one of his sons, the star didn’t say which one, was recently diagnosed with the blood sugar disease during an interview on the ‘TODAY’ show. “This year has been really one of my hardest years,” said Usher on the show. “I lost my grandmother, my son was diagnosed as being a type one diabetic. It has definitely been a difficult one for me.”
Raymond went on to say that he does his best to monitor what his son eats, even when he’s on the road. “Sometimes you’re looking at me and we’re off camera, and I’m online looking at numbers, trying to make sure he’s eating properly. It’s crazy,” explained the star.
Type 1 Diabetes is a disorder in which the body does not produce enough insulin, and hence fails to convert sugar and starches into energy. Thousands of children and young adults are diagnosed with the disease every year, and thousands more are able to live long and healthy lives after receiving necessary treatments.
