Guess who’s starring in Tyler Perry’s upcoming movie? Massai Dorsey II. Best Man Holiday actress Nia Long exclusively tells HipHollywood how her son’s big break came about.
“Tyler called and said, ‘Look I need you…Can you do this?’ And I was doing a show. I was doing ‘House of Lies’ as well and I was like, ‘God I don’t know how I’m going to do this.’ It just seemed impossible,” says Long of her accepting the role as one of the characters in the upcoming film, The Single Moms Club.
During taping, Nia got curious as to who was going to portray her son in the movie. “I asked [Tyler], ‘So who’s playing my son in the film?’ And he goes, ‘Well I don’t know. We’ll probably get a kid local in Atlanta.’ And I said, ‘Well you know my son is the same age as the character.’ He goes, ‘Really? I didn’t realize that.’ And I said ‘Yeah.'”
Long goes on to explain, “I said, ‘Can he audition for you?’ And he goes, ‘If you think he can do it, it’s fine.’ I said, ‘No, no, no, no. I’m not going to be looking like a fool if I get him there and he’s terrible. Let’s make him audition.’ Because I knew in my heart he could do it. But I wanted him to go through the process of earning something and also to understand what I do, and how we have to really work hard to get what we have.”
Massai is Nia’s eldest child. The actress also has a son named Kez. The Single Moms Club is expected to make its debut in theaters on March 14, 2014.
