Barack Obama and the girls return from their Hawaiian vacation refreshed and ready for another year. The President and his daughters stepped off Air Force One at Andrews Air Force Base on Sunday (January 5) with smiles and luggage from their holiday trip. Michelle Obama was not with the group, as she is spending a bit more time on the island to celebrate her fiftieth birthday. The President gave his wife a few more days in Hawaii as a birthday present. How cute!
Michelle has been hard at work supporting her husband and his Affordable Care Act, which has already begun providing health coverage to thousands of Americans who signed up last year. The First Lady spoke with Yolanda Adams a few weeks back, telling the radio host that Sasha and Malia inspired the new Act. “When Sasha, our youngest, was 4-months-old she contracted meningitis,” said Michelle to Yolanda. “There’s nothing like the peace of mind that comes with having insurance…We thought at that time as we sat in the emergency room all those years ago, ‘What would we do? What would we have done if we didn’t have this great coverage? How would we pay for it?'”
Individuals who have not signed up for health insurance can still do so by going to the Health Insurance Marketplace website or by calling 800-318-259. The deadline for open enrollment at the Health Insurance Marketplace ends on March 31, 2014. Michelle Obama will celebrate her fiftieth birthday on January 17, 2014.
