There is nothing that Rachel Roy would not do for her daughters and that includes moving across the country so they can be experience a different environment. The fashion designer recently relocated from New York to Los Angeles, telling media that she wanted Tallulah and Ava to get a taste of suburban life.
“I grew up in California and always wanted to be closer to my family,” said Roy. “My mother lives in California and it was important for my girls to grow up near her. I’ve really learned that raising two girls in a little concrete box is just not healthy. This move was more for my girls than anything else. Life in LA is more peaceful than New York. The weather is great year-round and we have been spending a lot of time outdoors and by the beach. I wanted to give my girls the experience of living in a suburban environment.”
In addition to creating clothes that go with the changing seasons, Rachel also does a lot of humanitarian work that serves to empower women of Third World nations to be independent. “I am always actively researching and collaborating with various organizations to make a difference in the lives of those in need,” explains Roy. “I was empowered through building my own company and I wanted under-served populations to have the opportunity to provide sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families. Most recently, I partnered with ‘The Collaborative Group’ to provide a source of support—stay tuned for our products.”
Rachel Roy has two kids, Ava and Tallulah, with ex-husband Damon Dash. Ava will celebrate her fourteenth birthday on December 7, 2013.
