Actress Garcelle Beauvais attended the world-premiere of “Disney’s Planes” at the El Capitan Theatre on August 5, 2013 in Hollywood, California with her twin sons and a family friend by her side.
This past weekend, the actress held a launching party at Book and Cookies children’s bookstore in Santa Monica for the first book in her I AM series. Garcelle’s oldest son, Oliver, gave lots of support to mom while twins Jaid and Jax delighted in the kid-friendly atmosphere of the store.
Beauvais’ book will join thousands of other stories that serve as entertainment to kids who visit Books and Cookies everyday. Garcelle recently told media that her inspiration to pen a children’s story about race came from her twins, who are biracial. “I couldn’t find any books for my kids,” said the actress. “I have twin boys that are biracial and it was really important for them to sort of celebrate and know where they’re from, see what makes them them and celebrate that.”
Garcelle previously shared what she hopes to accomplish with her I AM series with BCK saying, “My hope for I AM series is that it helps children feel accepted, have self love, and I hope it starts a conversation between kids and parents.”
Jax and Jaid are Garcelle and ex-husband Mike Nilon’s boys. Oliver is the actress’ son with ex-husband Daniel Saunders. Fans of Beauvais can expect to see the second book in her children’s series, which will address divorce, make its debut in coming months.
