Yaya Alafia and husband Joshua Alafia attended the premiere of The Butler in New York City. The actress smiled wide as her husband placed a loving hand on her stomach, showing off her growing bump. Yaya and Joshua are expecting their first child to arrive in coming weeks.
In the film, Yaya portrays the young and fierce Carol Hammie who serves as a key character in the movie’s plot. The Butler is the story of an African American man who is summoned to the White House to work in the hospitality department during the 1960’s. Not only does the audience gain insight into the life of individuals who serve as maids and butlers to First Families through the movie, but viewers also get a bit of a history lesson on the civil rights movement that took place during the era.
Forest Whitaker portrays the main character while Oprah Winfrey serves as his wife in the film. The Butler makes its general audience debut on Friday, August 16, 2013.
