The NBA Miami Heat player recently told the press that Trayvon Martin’s death hits home because “last Christmas, all my oldest son wanted as a gift was hoodies. So when I heard about this a week ago, I thought of my sons. I’m speaking up because I feel it’s necessary that we get past the stereotype of young, black men and especially with our youth.”  Wade is father to 4-year-old Zion and 10-year-old Zaire. The single father also parents his nephew.

Trayvon Martin,17, was gunned down last month by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman while en route back to his house in Sanford, Florida. The teen’s parents have since petitioned for Zimmerman’s arrest and booking for murder charges.
