Latto is sharing the story of how she went into labor after eating a spicy seafood boil.
During an appearance on First We Feast’s Hot Ones, the rapper told host Sean Evans that she ordered the meal the night before her due date.
“So it was the night before my due date, and I was showing no signs of labor,” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘No, I really wanna have my baby tomorrow.’ Like, no, I planned it. In my head, I was having my baby tomorrow.”
“And yeah, so I was like okay, I’m gonna order a really hot seafood boil, and that should do it,” she continued.
She said her water broke less than an hour after eating the dinner.
“I felt some liquid trickling down,” Latto recalled, explaining that she initially wasn’t sure what was happening. “It was my water breaking, yeah.”
The rapper welcomed her daughter, whom she shares with 21 Savage, in May. The couple has not publicly revealed her name or shown her face.
During her pregnancy, Latto said she craved sweets rather than the spicy foods she usually enjoyed.
“When I was pregnant, I had a sweet, a sweet tooth, sweet cravings, real bad,” she told Evans. “And I just never went back to the hot stuff.”
As for recording her album Big Mama while expecting, Latto said she was often out of breath.
“I was so out of breath,” she recalled. “Like just from walking in like the studio room part to the booth and sitting down, I’d be like, hold on, hold on, don’t start it yet, hold on.”
“Oh, and lots of bathroom breaks. Lots of bathroom breaks,” she added.
