NLE Choppa was interviewed by his 6-year-old daughter, Clover, during a recent sit-down with Billboard Family, and she came prepared with plenty of questions.
Baby brother Icon Chrome joined them on the couch as Clover asked her dad about music, faith, family and what he misses most when they are apart.
That last question brought out one of the sweetest moments of the conversation.
“I miss, like, the magic you carry,” NLE Choppa told her. “It’s a certain type of twinkle that you carry, and just letting me know that you, um, truly sent to my life for a divine reason. You always know how to make things feel better.”
The rapper then remembered a time when Clover was just 3 years old and noticed that he was going through something.
“You walked up to me and you grabbed my hands and you said, ‘Daddy, let’s pray,’” he recalled. “You was three years old.”
NLE Choppa said he never asked his daughter to pray with him. She saw that something was wrong and took the initiative herself.
“You seen that I was going through something and you walked up to me as a three-year-old giant, grabbed both of my hands and said, ‘Daddy, let’s pray,’” he told her. “You an angel, bro.”
Clover quickly tried to move on to the next question.
“She too cute for me. She ain’t trying to get emotional,” her dad joked.
Later, she asked what it was like for him to become famous as a child.
“If I was to go back in time, I never felt like I was a child around that time,” NLE Choppa said. “I never felt like a child.”
He went on to describe what happened when he returned to school after his career took off.
“Bro, tell me why when I blew up and I went back to school, like, it was like a concert,” he said. “Like, everybody was in my face, the whole school.”
It was an experience Clover could relate to.
“It’s, like, a lot of people that know me from school, like, they know me from TV,” she told him. “They be always following me.”
NLE Choppa quickly realized his daughter knew exactly what he was talking about.
“You already feel what I’m feeling, ’cause you a superstar yourself,” he said. “So you understand what I’m saying?”
