21 Savage is opening up about how fatherhood has changed for him since welcoming his fourth child.
During a recent appearance on The Pete Davidson Show, the 33-year-old rapper reflected on raising his baby girl with Latto and how his approach to parenting has evolved since his three older children were born.
“My first three, I was younger, running around in the street, it was different,” 21 Savage told Pete Davidson. “Now I’m in the house. I have the baby all night, making her bottles, changing her diapers. So it’s a different bond type sh-t.”
The rapper admitted that while he was around from the beginning with his older children, he wasn’t always as attentive as he is today.
“As I got older, I developed that bond better with my other kids,” he said. “Like I was around day one, but I wasn’t as attentive.”
21 Savage became a father for the first time around age 20, years before reaching his current level of success in the music industry. He is dad to three older children, Kamari, Ashaad and Rhian.
Looking back, the rapper said becoming a father at a young age motivated him to work harder.
“I’m glad I did both, though,” he said. “I feel like having my kids early motivated me to go get it. To be ambitious.”
“So now I’m glad I had kids then and got to experience both ways of parenting.”
21 Savage and Latto welcomed their first child together, a daughter, earlier this year. The baby is Latto’s first child and 21 Savage’s fourth.
Latto has also opened up about adjusting to motherhood after years of keeping much of her personal life private.
During a June appearance on The Breakfast Club, the “Big Mama” rapper explained that becoming a mother made it increasingly difficult to keep that part of her life completely out of the public eye.
“I feel like once you start reaching different milestones in life, you can only be so private,” Latto said. “I got a baby. I can only be so private.”
She also spoke about the family she and 21 Savage are building with his older children.
“It’s a family. Families come in all different shapes, sizes. It’s family,” Latto said.
