A new show for preschoolers is coming to Disney Jr. and Disney Plus.
Megan and Cupcake Ready for Preschool, a hybrid live-action and animated series, stars Emmy Award-winning puppeteer and ventriloquist Megan Piphus Baptist alongside her new sidekick, Cupcake.
Set in the WOW Workshop, the series explores early learning concepts through games and hands-on activities using gadgets and gizmos. Megan and Cupcake’s live-action scenes will also be paired with existing Ready for Preschool shorts focused on different learning and play concepts.
Ready for Preschool first launched in 2019 with musical shorts featuring familiar Disney Jr. characters and age-appropriate lessons for young viewers. The videos have since racked up more than 150 million views on the network’s YouTube channel.
Viewers can already get a look at Megan and Cupcake. Disney Jr. began releasing 10 one-minute shorts featuring the duo on YouTube on August 13. The videos introduce kids to Megan, Cupcake and the WOW Workshop before the full series arrives this fall.
Baptist has plenty of experience entertaining young audiences. She began learning puppetry and ventriloquism at age 10 and later appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and America’s Got Talent.
In 2020, she joined Sesame Street, where she performs Gabrielle, a 6-year-old Black girl Muppet. Baptist made history as the first Black female puppeteer to perform on the long-running children’s show.
The four-time Emmy winner is also a musician, children’s author and mom of two. Her children’s albums include Spaceships & Dreams and Cinderella Sweep. Earlier this year, she released her first children’s book, Brave Like a Lion! How a Puppeteer Found Her Voice.
Megan and Cupcake Ready for Preschool joins Disney Jr.’s learning-focused programming, which includes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Gracie’s Corner.
Riverstreet Productions produces the series in association with Disney Jr. Jason Hopley and Brian Clark developed the project and serve as executive producers alongside Michael Blum and Tracy Pion.
Currently in production, Megan and Cupcake Ready for Preschool will debut on Disney Jr. and stream on Disney+ later this fall.
