BRITTNEY GRINER AND CHERELLE GRINER CELEBRATE SON BASH’S 2ND BIRTHDAY, OPEN UP ABOUT IVF JOURNEY

Brittney Griner and her wife, Cherelle Griner, are celebrating a special milestone for their family as their son, Bash Raymond Griner, turns 2.

The proud parents each took to social media on Wednesday to share birthday tributes in honor of their little boy.

“Happy Birthday to my everything! I had no idea that you were going to change my life the way you did. I love you so much Bash Raymond Griner and Happy Birthday Son! We are the luckiest parents on earth!” Brittney wrote.

She also took a moment to celebrate her wife, adding, “I also have to say thank you baby for bringing into this world a happy healthy baby boy. You did an amazing job creating life.”

Cherelle shared her own emotional message alongside photos of Bash.

“You’ll always be my little boy … my greatest pride … my greatest joy … my heart … my son … you are my everything under the sun,” she wrote.

She continued, “Happy birthday Bash! I love you deeply! You’re the best co-worker, plus one, workout partner, & broke little bestie a mom could ask for! You don’t know it yet, but we’re just getting started in life together! My prayer is that we’ll never know a day without you.”

Last month, Brittney and Cherelle appeared on the ANDMOM podcast, hosted by Skylar Diggins and sports broadcaster Cassidy Hubbarth, where they opened up about their IVF journey.

According to Cherelle, the couple carefully timed the IVF process around Brittney’s WNBA schedule and Cherelle’s graduation from North Carolina Central University School of Law.

“We said we have to use this window because it’s so many shots and it’s such an intimate process during that time. And I did not want to do that with anybody else,” Cherelle said. “I have a great village, and anybody could have filled in if I would have called them, but I was like, no, I want this to be us.”

Brittney echoed that sentiment, saying she wanted to be involved throughout the entire process.

“I wanted to be there every step of the way…I [wanted] to play nurse,” she said.

As the IVF journey continued, Brittney admitted it became increasingly difficult to give Cherelle her injections because she could see the bruising and physical toll the treatments were taking.

Their plans were interrupted in February 2022 when Brittney was detained at a Moscow airport and later imprisoned in Russia for nearly 10 months. After Griner’s release, the couple moved forward with their plans to grow their family.

“I don’t even know if we both were in a soft place when we decided to still continue with our plan to have Bash. And so I just wanted to reduce as much stress as possible. Because we were both going through so much at the time,” Cherelle admitted.

The couple eventually created three “golden” embryos. One of those embryos would later become Bash.

Cherelle recalled waking up the night of the embryo transfer with an intense feeling and telling Brittney, “It took, honey.”

She added, “I feel like I can still remember the moment that it took. I never cramp. I never have crazy things like that. And it got me out of the bed. It was so intense. And I was like, ‘Babe.’ I was like, ‘No, no, no. Me and this baby are officially… we’re connected.’ Like, I knew.”
