Tinker Bell first appeared in J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play Peter Pan. She later appeared in the 1911 novel adaptation, Peter and Wendy.

Since then, the feisty, and fiercely loyal, but also jealous, and hot-tempered fairy has appeared in many film and television adaptations of the Peter Pan story.

In an exclusive interview with People Magazine at the time, the talented young actress said that portraying Tinker Bell was “something really powerful”.

“My take on Tinker Bell nods towards the classic feistiness that we love about her, that kind of overly expressive nature,” she said.

She continued telling the outlet that she didn’t want the project to result in a simple “race swap,” she wanted more for the role.

“While I can argue that there’s something really powerful about having a Black Tinker Bell, to be able to have a role where the job was fantasy was really an escape as an actor.
It reminded me how much I enjoy the creativity of my job.”
