Have you heard of the term “silky mom”? If not, keep reading and we will fill you in on what it means to be a “silky mom” and some of the benefits of adopting this parenting style.

The term “silky mom” first appeared on social media in 2023 as a response to the “crunchy mom” parenting style. The “crunchy mom” parenting stye refers directly to mothers who value natural and organic foods and remedies.
Parenting.com defines a “silky mom” as a parent who is laid back and comfortable with “going with the flow,” recognizing that there are many ways to effectively parent.

As stated by Dr. Rostislav Ignatov, chief medical officer at The Haven Detox, “a silky mom has her feet firmly planted in the modern world. She takes advantage of modern technology, and has a more scientific approach to her kids’ health.”
Do you think that you are a “silky mom”? Here are ten signs from the experts that you may be.
- You keep your pantry stocked with snacks, and the kids always have access to what they want to eat
- You are easy going about processed food and nutrition labels
- Fast food is perfectly acceptable as a meal in your house
- Your kids wear clothes that are decorated with characters from TV shows
- When your kids are sick, you readily offer Tylenol or Motrin
- You vaccinate your kids per your pediatrician’s guidance
- Your kids use or used pacifiers
- There aren’t any “sad beige toys” in your kids’ playroom—plastic toys that play music or make sounds, or that light up, are totally acceptable in your house. Your kids have their own tablets
- You don’t set strict screen time limits.

Now that we know what a “silky mom” is, let’s look at some of the benefits. Dr. Caroline Fenkel, LCSW, DSW told Parents.com, that this parenting style can make life easier for the moms.
“The upside is that parents can take advantage of resources that make life easier, which can, in turn, mean less stress, more energy, and more time to be present with their kids,” says Dr. Fenkel.
In addition to making life easier for moms, the experts suggest that other benefits of this parenting style include:
- creating a relaxed environment
- promoting independence
- it prioritizes self-care and mental health
