NE-YO PERFORMS WITH SON MASON FOR THE FIRST TIME DURING SCHOOL CELEBRATION

Ne-Yo shared the stage with his son for the first time this week during a school celebration.

The Grammy-winning artist joined his son Mason for a performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” during a Black History Month program at Mason’s school this week. Ne-Yo later posted a clip from the moment, writing, “1st time singing together. Great job kiddo!! #TheAppleDoesntFallFarFromTheTree.”

Mason’s mom, Monyetta Shaw-Carter, also shared footage from the performance and reflected on the significance of the moment.

“Happy Black History Month!! Watching my son Mason and his Pops, @neyo, sing ‘Lift Every Voice’ this morning at his school’s amazing Black History program was EVERYTHING. Whew…” Shaw wrote.

According to Shaw, the performance was not originally planned and came together just days before the event.

“It was their first time singing together,” she added. “Thank you Mrs. Pitts & Mrs. Walton. He decided to join him just a few days ago.”

She continued, “Such a precious moment rooted in legacy, love, and culture. I’m beyond proud of him. They were AMAZING!!! Come on duo!!! Priceless moments for sure!!!”

“Lift Every Voice and Sing,” often referred to as the Black national anthem, holds deep meaning for many in the Black community. Several commenters shared that the performance brought back memories of similar moments from their own childhoods.

“Core memory unlocked!! This was so special!! Love it! Baby boy did so good!” one commenter wrote.

Another added, “Awe. Mason sounds so good!!!! This song is so important to our culture, and I am so happy that @neyo joined him in this moment. I pray we do not lose this staple of our history ever!”

Several others noted how confident Mason appeared onstage, calling the moment “beautiful”.

“That baby can sang!!! Like father like son…beautiful !!!! Amen,” the follower said.

NE-YO and Shaw-Carter share two children: daughter Madilyn Grace and son Mason Evan.
