John Boyega is going to be a dad!
The Star Wars actor, 34, is expecting a baby boy with his wife, whom he quietly married nearly two years ago.
Boyega opened up about his marriage during a recent interview with The Guardian, after the reporter noticed a wedding ring on his left hand.
“Oh yeah, this is my wedding ring,” he said. “I’ve been married for coming up to two years now.”
The actor did not disclose his partner’s identity, but did reveal that they exchanged vows in a small ceremony and hope to have a larger gathering in the future.
“I would love to have a wedding celebration,” he said. “We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry. And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!”
For now, the couple is focused on their growing family, which includes Boyega’s young stepson.
“My baby’s on the way. We got a baby cooking,” he shared. “So, you know, my life is completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family. It’s been so nice with the timing.”
And Boyega already knows what kind of dad he wants to be.
“Us being parents is funny! I just want to make sure I’m present, I’m consistent and full of love,” he said.
That has meant prioritizing family over his work.
“I’ve tried to as much as possible, especially following periods when I’ve worked a lot, to de-centre my career,” he explained. “There have been certain moments when I’ve known that this is a time for family. Y’know, there’s stuff to do.”
Boyega also spoke about his BBC documentary, Damilola: The Untold Story, which explores the November 2000 death of his childhood friend Damilola Taylor. The actor was just 8 years old at the time and was among the last people to see Damilola alive.
“I know it’s one of those films I wouldn’t watch multiple times because of my personal relationship to it, but it’s definitely a film I will refer to,” Boyega said. “When my child comes of age I will show him this film. You need to know the realities of your lineage.”
