Yaya Mayweather and her family celebrated her son KJ’s fifth birthday on Saturday with a basketball-themed surprise party.
In video clips shared online, KJ, whom Mayweather shares with rapper NBA Youngboy, walked into the room blindfolded. After pulling it off, he realized the party was for him.
Seconds later, the five year old took off running and jumped straight into the arms of his grandfather, Floyd Mayweather, as everyone cheered.
KJ’s grandmother, Melissia Reneé, was right there to catch the moment, recording as the sweet exchange played out in real time.

The celebration came after Mayweather initially claimed on social media that NBA YoungBoy did not contribute to the birthday planning and that her father stepped in to help make the day happen.
In a statement shared on Instagram Stories a few days later, Yaya walked back her comments and acknowledged that she should not have taken her frustrations to social media, writing, “I want to apologize for bringing personal issues between me and my child’s father to the internet. That was something that should have stayed private.”
She continued, “Emotions were high and we weren’t seeing eye to eye, but that doesn’t justify it. I reacted out of frustration and I own that.”

Mayweather also addressed claims she previously made about NBA YoungBoy not taking care of their son.
“I also want to correct the things I said about him not helping with our son because that was wrong,” she wrote. “He does help. Anytime I ask him for anything no matter what it is… even if it’s for me he makes it happen.”
She explained that the disagreement stemmed from a delay related to money for their son’s birthday.
She added, “We spoke and he said he would give me the money that was paid for our son’s birthday back. I just got upset because it wasn’t happening as quickly as I wanted and I let my emotions take over.”
Addressing their co-parenting dynamic, Mayweather said the two are working toward healthier communication. “We’re both learning how to communicate and co-parent in a healthy way for our child’s sake, and for our own peace,” she wrote.
