In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Michael recalled how difficult it was to hear his daughter express her will to live.

“She wasn’t eating much,” Strahan told the outlet. “She was thin and tired and bald and all the things you hate to see your kid go through. Her spirit was there. One of the things she said, probably the hardest thing I had to hear was, ‘Dad I’ll do whatever. I want to live.’”

He added, “I knew she wouldn’t quit. She was going to fight — and she did.”

Isabella fought and won, announcing that she was cancer free about six months ago.

The University of Southern California student, who vlogged her cancer journey on social media, shared a “Goodbye Hospital,” video for all to share in her joy.

At the time, Strahan took to social media to praise his daughter, writing, “@isabellastrahan you are a SUPERWOMAN! Ringing that bell, finishing chemo and on your way!” he wrote on Instagram. “You continue to fight with a smile on your face, strength, and determination. I am one proud Dad! Love you, Bella.”

The exclusive  People Magazine feature debuted ahead of an upcoming ABC special: Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan’s Fight Against Cancer, which will air on February 5 at 10 p.m. and the next day, Feb. 6 on Disney+ and Hulu.

The special will offer a deeper look into Isabella’s journey and her mission to encourage others facing similar challenges.

“Obviously you can’t predict what can happen, and that is a little scary,” she told People. “But I don’t think you can solely live in fear. I think I should live every day. Take every opportunity. I see the impact that can come from sharing my experience. My diagnosis, it’s a part of me, but it doesn’t define me. I want to be a voice.”
