Jodie Turner-Smith is taking a stand in her ongoing divorce from Joshua Jackson.
According to new legal documents obtained by TMZ, Jodie is asking a judge to step in and order her estranged husband to pay child and spousal support, claiming Joshua has failed to fulfill a promise he made regarding their financial future.
The couple, who share a 4-year-old daughter named Juno, have been in a legal battle since Jodie filed for divorce in October 2023. Initially, when the divorce papers were filed, Jodie opted to block any potential spousal support.
However, the situation has since shifted, and Jodie now argues that she needs financial assistance to care for herself and their daughter.
In the court filing, Jodie is requesting $8,543 per month in child support and $28,641 per month in spousal support, at least while their divorce case remains unresolved.
Jodie explains that she has been trying to keep the split amicable, but says Joshua is dragging his feet and inflating her legal costs. She claims that without his financial support, she’s struggling to maintain her and Juno’s livelihood.
Jodie has also pointed out the disparity in their incomes during their marriage, stating that Joshua, who has had a long career in Hollywood, earned significantly more than her.
But what has hurt Jodie the most is Joshua allegedly reneging on his promise to financially support her and their daughter if they ever separated. She recalls that Joshua reassured her that she wouldn’t need to worry about financial security because he understood the challenges of being a Black woman and a single mother.
She says he “promised to always support me and ensured me that I would not have to worry about financial security for our daughter if we ever separated because he said he understood how difficult life can be as a Black woman and a single mother.”
However, Jodie claims Joshua is not living up to his word and is attempting to get her to agree to a settlement that falls short of what she believes she deserves. She is also asking the court to order Joshua to pay $250,000 to cover her attorney fees and forensic accounting costs.
So far, there has been no comment from Joshua regarding these latest developments.
