Zoe Saldana is embracing the Christmas season by combining her family’s multicultural traditions to create something truly new and unique for the season.
Saldana’s home is a melting pot of culture. The Live By Night actress shares her three sons with Italian husband, Marco Perego. Saldana herself is the daughter of immigrants, so it is no wonder that her home is where American English, Italian, and Spanish traditions converge for the holidays.
“I am a child of immigrants, and my sons are a second generation through me and sons of an immigrant through their father, so it is about celebrating everybody’s culture and theirs—and they’re American,” Saldana said in a recent interview with Parents.com.
In the Saldana household, this celebration of cultural life is done through foods that celebrate Afro-Latinx, Caribbean, and Italian culture as to ensure that her boys are embracing their diverse cultural heritage and learning about every aspect of their traditions that proudly makes them unique.
The Avatar actress continued in the interview stating that being a #boymom and the only woman in her house has been an “humbling” journey that is a “gift” and “a lot of work.”
“It is a gift, but it is a lot of work,” Saldana said. “I want to work on it because it has to do with me dealing and putting my traumas aside to give them a clean runway so that they can create their own stories. In 2023, that’s quite scary. So, I’m very protective of my boys and greatly celebrate them. And I praise them and challenge their emotional maturity because I want them to be verbal about their emotions. The highlight of my life is mothering men.”
