Olympic track and field champion and Real Housewives of Atlanta star Sanya Richards-Ross is opening up about pregnancy after miscarriage.
In season 14 of the popular Bravo show, viewers followed her journey to conceive her second child. The cameras captured her joyful moment upon learning about the pregnancy, but unfortunately, she faced a heartbreaking miscarriage almost two months later.
“It was very traumatic,” recalled Richards-Ross in an exclusive interview with People Magazine. “I was in New York and had a really bad miscarriage. I had to go to the hospital. I had to have a blood transfusion. It was very, very, very scary.”
She continued adding, “You already opened your heart to becoming a mom, so it was awful. Even just talking about it… it really was a difficult time.”
The 38-year-old mother confessed that she had reservations about having another child due to several significant life changes in recent years
“I think a lot of women can relate to this too, but when you become a mom, you can sometimes question, ‘What’s my identity now going to be outside of the home?’ ” Richards-Ross said.
After retiring from sports and becoming a mother to her first son, Aaron Jermaine, Sanya faced a whirlwind of changes that put a strain on her relationship with her husband, NFL star Aaron Ross
She added, “Don’t get me wrong, Aaron and I, we loved being parents. But all these years in, we had just gotten into a good rhythm where we finally figured out how we wanted to parent. We had that balance where we were communicating well again, I was finally working again… And so I was skeptical about having another child.”
Richard-Ross said that her miscarriage put everything into perspective, making her realize how much she “really wanted to become a mom again.” And now, four-months pregnant, she and her family: husband, NFL star Aaron Ross and almost six-year-old son Aaron Jermaine, couldn’t be happier.
“But I just couldn’t be happier and more clear about. I know I can do this. I’ve done it before. I have the support. I know what to expect. I’m so ready to meet this little one.”
The Jamaican-American athlete has not revealed the sex of the baby and teases that she may do so on the RHOA reunion. The new addition to the Ross family will make their debut just in time for Christmas, on December 25, 2023.
