It has been a year since Naya Rivera’s family laid her to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles. The GLEE star’s ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey, wrote a beautiful tribute to her on Saturday (July 24).
“Today … A year ago we laid you to rest,” Ryan wrote to Naya. “I still can’t believe it,” the actor admitted. “The year has flown by, so fast that it doesn’t seem like it’s been a year at all. Our boy has grown so much. He’s such an explorer, so inquisitive. He’s sweet, so funny, and his laugh always lights up the room. He’s an intuitive soul, to say the least.”
Naya Rivera died by drowning last July when a trip to the lake with her son turned into a missing person’s report that ultimately ended in tragedy. Boat attendees found Naya’s son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, on the boat by himself hours after the little one went out to explore the body of water with his mom. Josey told the authorities that his mom went swimming but never came back up. Law enforcement searched for Naya for days before finding her body caught in trees underneath the water.
“July will probably always be a strange and difficult month in the years that are hopefully plentiful in the future,” Ryan Dorsey wrote to his ex-wife. “As the years go by strength will be on my side as I will share the memories with what is the brightest star of your legacy left on this earth, our beautiful son, Josey,” Dorsey promised.
“Fly high, Rest In Peace, knowing he’s doing OK,” Ryan wrote to Naya concerning their son. “He’s being raised right, and he’s got a lot of family and people around him that love him, and you,” the celebrity father declared.
Josey is Ryan Dorsey’s only child with Naya Rivera. He celebrates his sixth birthday in September.
