Parker Curry saw such beauty in former president and first lady Obama’s portrait that she couldn’t help but stop and admire the creation. The 2-year-old’s reaction to the out-of-the-box painting was simply priceless, which is why former first lady Michelle Obama took time to visit the toddler earlier this week.
“Parker, I’m so glad I had the chance to meet you today (and for the dance party),” the former first lady shared online this past Tuesday. “Keep on dreaming big for yourself…and maybe one day I’ll proudly look up at a portrait of you!”
Ben Hines was visiting the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. a few weeks ago when he came across little Parker who was fixated on a portrait of Michelle Obama.
“She was focused on it,” Parker’s mom, Jessica Curry, tells media. “I couldn’t see her facial expression from my point of view but Ben Hines, who was on the side, could see that she was just awestruck. She was captivated. She was focused on the picture and he was lucky to capture a really special moment because I couldn’t capture it from behind her. And then she eventually did turn around and she ran off so I never got a really good picture of her with the portrait.”

Ben Hines did get a candid of little Parker and shared the precious image online. “Her face says it all,” one of Hines’ Facebook friends said. Perhaps Cherie Dargan summed the moment up best by writing, “What an amazing picture: the look of wonder on this little girl’s face makes me smile. I love the portrait and adding the layer of the little girl literally looking up to a gracious, intelligent, and beautiful black woman as her role model is like the cherry on top.” Indeed!
