Best known for her role as Rue in the first of The Hunger Games movies, Amandla Stenberg is headed back to the big screen, landing the lead role in the newest adaptation of Alexandra Bracken’s The Darkest Minds trilogy.
The Darkest Minds is a dystopian young adult series that takes place after a mysterious disease kills most of America’s child and teenage populations. The survivors—they begin to develop supernatural powers that label them as threats to society. Stenberg will play the 16-year-old, telekinetic Ruby who breaks out of a government “rehabilitation camp” and joins up with others who have managed to escape as well. And then…you guessed it, the children head off on an adventurous journey in search of a “safe haven” known as East River.
This is the second young adult series adaptation that Stenberg has been cast as lead. The first was MGM’s adaptation of Nicola Yoon’s novel Everything Everything.
The Darkest Minds hits bookstores December 18.
