Holly Robinson Peete was getting ready to sing the national anthem during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday when her son, RJ, surprised her. RJ stepped on the field wearing the Dodgers’ uniform and brought his mom to tears.
“RJ surprised me and came out on the field with his uniform on and I think I’m about to lose it,” Holly told Instagram fans. “I’m about to sing the national anthem and this kid just never stops making me cry,” she exclaimed. “The fact that the Dodgers have embraced my son just melts me every time I think about it. This is a boy we were told would never be on his own speak or have friends and now he has a whole dugout full of friends!”
The Los Angeles Dodgers dedicated the entire night to autism awareness this past Tuesday. Dodgers Stadium turned blue for the cause of informing the masses about a disorder that is conquerable.
Some parents believe that autism is the end of the road for their kids. Unaware of the resources available to children with the disorder, moms and dads often begin preparing for the worse after receiving the diagnosis from the doctor.
RJ, however, is living proof that autism is not the debilitating disorder that many have perceived. The 18-year-old often speaks his mind on the family’s reality show, For Peete’s Sake, and crafts open letters to teens battling with autism. RJ has even held down a summer job and is presently pursuing a career in modeling!
A portion of Tuesday night’s ticket sales at Dodgers Stadium went to Autism Speaks. Holly Robinson Peete and her husband, Rodney Peete, have four kids together.
