“I think the main thing that has shaped me into the individual I am now is just tenacity and persistence,” she says. “Though I was born here in America, I visited Nigeria many times, and I’ve seen that my cousins don’t have the same opportunities that I have. So definitely, whatever I do, I want to make sure that it has an impact on Nigeria.”

Augusta goes on to dote on her hometown and loved ones saying, “My recent accomplishments reflect the hardworking ideals of the town of Elmont, my supportive parents and my dedicated teachers. I am elated, but most importantly, I am thankful.”

Kevin Dougherty, Elmont Memorial High School principal, is also pretty delighted. “Having two students get accepted into all eight Ivy League institutions in back-to-back years is humbling,” he shares. “[It] also speaks to the incredible commitment to children by the families and staff within the EMHS Community.”

Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna will graduate with an average percentage of 101.6, which translates to a 4.0 GPA on the scale. The teen has yet to decide on which university she will attend in the fall.
