Sofia Richie recently chatted up Elle magazine in an 11 page spread. The young model had a lot to say about growing up in the industry and having her own personal style.
One element of being as Nicole Richie’s younger sister is that her former wild ways still influence how Sofia is being raised. “My dad is more strict because of my sister,” she explained. “It’s not like I’m doing anything bad, but he went through all that with Nicole, so he’s just strict to prevent it from happening again.” However, Nicole has for the most part grown out of her reckless ways and can now be someone Sofia can turn to for advice. The starlet said that even as she enters the public eye, the two could never be equals. “Nicole will always give me guidance as a big sister. She tells me every day that she’s mad that I’m growing up.”
On the bright side though, she is old enough to ravage Nicole’s fun style. Sofia admits her sister is a big influence on her when it comes to fashion. “Nicole loves patterns, so I wear a lot of patterns. Or flow-y dresses. I always say that she loves to swim in her clothes. So, anything I wear that’s funky comes from her.” Sofia also points out that while her own style is edgy, it’s also classy. “I’m not the kind of girl to walk out of the house in booty shorts and a crop top and Converse,” she clarified.
Nicole is not Sofia’s only inspiration though, she also takes from her father. The music legend, Lionel Richie, may be sheltering Sofia for now, but it won’t last forever. She has big dreams of moving to NYC and launching a music career, full of soul. Her father’s desire to put that off for some time makes perfect sense though, since being in the industry is difficult at any age. Even as she moves forward with her modelling career, Sofia knows that there are some friends that are less supportive than others, but she understands that as being part of the “Hollywood” life. But she proudly stated that her real friends “aren’t ‘Hollywood.’ They’re just talented singers and artists,” she added.
It seems like Sofia has a sound support system and a good head on her shoulders, which are the two most important things she’ll need as she heads into the limelight.
