Ray Allen is encouraging you and those in the South Miami area to shop for his son, Walker. The star athlete has partnered with the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) to help Walker and millions of other kids battling with Type 1 Diabetes.
“This is my son Walker. He is a 7year old character full of energy, love and life. Unfortunately at 17 months old he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes,” tweeted Allen in an Instagram post. “The JDRF is the global voice of Type 1 diabetes, started by two mothers and casts the widest net for a cure on our planet. Ohm Boutique in South Miami will do its part in spreading awareness by hosting #ShopForWalker Proceeds from your purchases will be donated to the JDRF, in Walker Allen’s name. Let’s help my son and millions of other children around the world find a cure for this terrible disease.”
Ray and his wife, Shannon, recently decided to team up with DRIF to co-chair the Ray Allen Gold Classic and Ray of Hope Luncheon after hearing of the organization’s many efforts to spread awareness about Diabetes in the community. “My family and I are excited to be co-chairing this special even,” said the star athlete to media. “People with type 1 diabetes, including my son, must carefully manage their blood-glucose levels throughout each and every day, balancing insulin doses with daily activities. Managing this disease is a full-time role that affects the entire family. By supporting critical research, our goal is for all people to know a world without type 1 diabetes.”
The Allens will host their Golf Classic and luncheon on January 27, 2014 at La Gorce Country Club on Miami Beach. Ray and Shannon parent five kids together.
