Jasmin Brown is opening up about her struggle with postpartum depression after welcoming two children with former NFL quarterback Cam Newton.
In a recent Instagram video, the comedian and actress, who welcomed a daughter in 2024 and a son in 2025, said postpartum depression caught her by surprise.
“I had kids back to back so I didn’t realize that, like, I was going through postpartum depression until it literally just kicked me in my teeth and said, B****, we’re here.”
She initially didn’t think anything was wrong because she was still able to handle her everyday responsibilities.
“Yeah, I’m just cooking and cleaning and crying and cooking and cleaning and crying. And yeah, but I’m taking care of everybody else, but just, like, b****, are you taking care of you?”

With two young children to care for, she rarely had time to process her own feelings. That changed when she hired a nanny.
“But when the nanny came on and she was essentially just my helping hand with the kids, and it allowed me to kind of be in my stillness, I realized, Oh b****, oh, you depressed,” she said.
“And I’m thinking like, dang, like why now? Like my son is a year old. Like, and it can literally hit you at any point.”
Brown recalled a friend who had struggled emotionally despite having three nannies. At the time, she couldn’t understand how someone with that much help could still feel unmotivated. Now, with a nanny of her own, she found herself in a similar position.
“And, you know, in this moment I’m realizing, like, who my people are, you know what I’m saying? Like people who show up for me, people who support me,” she added.
She also urged men to take postpartum depression seriously rather than dismiss it as something women should simply get over.
“Y’all act like it’s a hoax, like postpartum depression? Oh man, that’s like a period cramp. Man, that’s like PMS.”
Jasmin went on to describe the symptoms she had been experiencing.
“Like, fellas, I really encourage you guys to lean into your person if she’s depressed or she’s going through any type of mental health, postpartum depression, whatever. Like, n****, I’m, I’m seeing things. I am literally— I’m hearing voices. I am hearing voices. And y’all might think this s*** is funny, b****, it ain’t funny.”
For now, Jasmin says she is relying on her children and her faith for strength.
“And I’m taking the time to really just lean into my kids, lean into God, because it’s like, baby, it’s trying to get me. I ain’t gonna lie. But no weapon formed against me shall prosper,” she said.
