CRAIG MELVIN’S SON DELANO JOINS HIM ON TODAY FOR BRING YOUR KIDS TO WORK DAY

Craig Melvin had a special guest with him for “Bring Your Kids to Work Day” on Thursday, April 23.

The Today co-anchor brought his 12-year-old son, Delano, to join him on the morning broadcast, alongside Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer at the roundtable during the 3rd Hour

“My son, Delano, woke up early, very early,” Melvin said as his son was rolled into the segment on a chair.

Delano quickly settled in, though Melvin had to step in when his son started spinning at the desk.

“No, son, you’ve got to… the cameras,” Melvin said, adjusting his chair. “You’ve got to pay attention.”

Roker jumped in with a quick response, telling Melvin, “He’s just doing what you do,” which got a laugh from the table.

Later, Delano got the chance to read from the prompter and help announce the winners of a pet naming contest.

Delano went on to read out one of the winning names, a cat called “Cheddar Big Booty Cheeseburger,” which led to another joke from Roker.

“That’s what we call your dad!”

Melvin laughed it off, telling his son, “Don’t encourage Mr. Roker.”

Delano then shared that he came up with the name for the family dog, Miles. “Miles Garrett was a good football player at the time, so I decided to name him Miles Garrett,” he explained.

When asked what he planned to do with the rest of his day off, Delano paused before answering, “Uhhhh,” which led Melvin to respond, “Great, we missed school for this.”

Delano wrapped up his appearance by reading a tease about tips for getting “your dad to raise your allowance,” but Melvin quickly shut that idea down.
