Kaavia James steps into the interviewer’s chair to ask her mom, Gabrielle Union, the real questions. Their adorable and unexpectedly candid exchange is everything you didn’t know you needed and much more.
For People Magazine‘s World’s Most Beautiful issue, “Shady Baby” and her mom interview each other, covering topics that include Union wearing wigs, red carpet mishaps, and “being fancy”.
The interview started off with the 52-year-old asking her daughter to describe her in a few words.
For Kaavia, she replied with two simple adjectives to describe her mother, “fancy and perfect.”
The Bring it On alum followed her daughter’s response up with another question, asking her why she picked “fancy and perfect” to describe her and Kaavia said, ““Because you have a lot of jewels.”
One of the funniest moments during the interview is when Kaavia took on the rule of interviewer, asking her mother why she likes wearing wigs.
Union responded,”Ooh, triggered. Because I like to switch it up. I like to switch up my look,” Union-Wade said. “Because sometimes I want to have short hair, and sometimes I want to have long hair, and sometimes I want to have blonde hair. And with wigs, I can do all those different things and play all these different kinds of characters.”
The Space Cadet actress asked her daughter the same question, to which Kaavia responded so that she can, “have long hair.”
Cue the positive parenting moment as Union steps in to help her daughter reframe her thoughts on self-image by responding,”You do have poofy long hair, and silky straight long hair, and curly long hair. You just like change, right?” Kaavia responded, “Yes.”
Union shares her six-year-old daughter with NBA legend, LeBron James. In addition to Kaavia James, Wade is also father to Zaire, Zaya, Xavier, and guardian of his nephew, Dahveon.
