“I went to my daughter while we were grieving, I said to her, ‘Are you comfortable moving?’ ” Holker Boss recalled during her interview. “And she said, ‘Mom, we’ve been waiting for you.'”

“We loved that home. It always felt so safe to us, but it did take a turn. A lot of people don’t talk about that after grief. I was holding on to these past emotions thinking it was saving me, but it started to swallow us.”

The So You Think You Can Dance judge continued, “It was a very, very big decision to uproot my children. Their lives had already been so changed, I was like, ‘Is this okay for me to do this to them?’ It was the best decision, for us.”

Yet, it was indeed the best decision for Holker Boss and her children to make the move. The dance pro explained that moving from the family home that she shared with her husband gave she and her girls the opportunity to embrace a new space “that became our sanctuary.”

“It was like the final step to our healing, where now we could leave that in the past and we could finally take a step forward for each other. It became freedom. It was a place for us to find solace and create new memories and new beginnings and fresh starts and everyone kind of felt like a weight was lifted off our shoulders.”

Holker Boss is mother to: Zaia, 4, and Maddox, 8, and Weslie, 16. The professional dancer shared her children with dance-world sensation Steven “tWitch” Boss who died as a result of suicide in December of 2022.
