Angelina Jolie is one of the most recognized faces in Hollywood, seemingly to always portray an elegant sense of calm and tranquility no matter what rumors of drama seem to be swirling around her.
Recently, the 49-year-old actress opened up in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about how she tries to hide “pain and sadness” from her children; however, in her new project, Maria, the “heavy moments,” lead to Jolie’s children seeing her cry as she has never done so before.
Jolie’s two eldest son’s, Maddox, 23, and Pax, 20, were on set, working as assistant directors, while the actress was filming her upcoming movie. They got to experience first-hand seeing their mother’s truly emotional moments.
“I’ve been a parent for 23 years. The most beautiful thing about being a parent is that you are not the center of your life. So you are leaving set, focused on something for someone. That’s your real life. Your real world. And that always is the majority of who you are,” the mother-of-six told the outlet. “I have never had a set where my family is not allowed to be there because I’m focusing — I’m not that person. You can climb all over me or visit.”
Jolie continued, “It really meant a lot that my boys were with me on Maria. When I would have really heavy times, they would come over and just give me a hug or a cup of tea. That was probably one of the more intense things was that — usually when I’m expressing that much pain, it’s not in front of my children. You really try to hide from your children how much pain and sadness you carry. And so for them to be with you when you’re expressing it at such a level, I think it was the first time they ever heard me cry like that.”
Jolie went on to joke, “That’s usually for the shower.”
In addition to her two eldest sons, Jolie is mom to Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.
Jolie’s daughter, Zahara became a member of one of the Divine Nine when she pledged the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College in November of 2023. Jolie has been extremely vocal about how proud she is not only of her daughter but of her AKA sister’s as well. Jolie has not only been present for her daughter on movie-in day, she has also attended one of the sorority lunches as well.
