Javaughn Young-White, Kehlani’s ex-partner and father of their 5-year-old daughter Adeya Nomi, has filed a paternity petition seeking full custody of their child.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Young-White claims that Kehlani has been involved with a cult for the past few years, which he believes is negatively impacting their daughter’s upbringing.
He alleges that the cult leader, who faces multiple sexual assault accusations, has a controlling influence over Kehlani, leading her to believe that Young-White poses a threat to their daughter. This, he argues, has resulted in Kehlani preventing him from seeing Adeya.
Young-White’s petition suggests that Kehlani’s current environment, coupled with her busy tour schedule, is not suitable for their daughter. He is seeking court intervention to ensure Adeya’s safety and well-being.
Kehlani and Young-White welcomed Adeya in March 2019, but their relationship ended the following year. Despite their breakup, they managed to co-parent effectively for a few years.
“Her dad’s awesome and he’s super fluid when it comes to my career. So he’s like, ‘You want me to come with her and just we all hang out? And we’ll go back and forth?’ We just have a great system and we’re a great co-parenting team. We’ll take it as it comes,” Kehlani shared in an interview in 2021.
Kehlani has frequently shared moments with Adeya on social media and expressed the transformative impact of motherhood on her life.
“From birthing at home standing up in the shower, to chasing this one around the backyard, motherhood has been the most beautiful blessing. Becoming a mother made me have even more respect for my mother, my grandmother, single mamas, working mamas, EVERY KIND OF MOM,” she wrote in an Instagram post 2020.
Kehlani went on to tell her fans, “It’s harder than anyone explains it to be, and more beautiful as well because there will never be words that amount. this little spirit came in and changed my world, changed my life forever.”
