Chrissy Teigen has opened up about a significant health update regarding her son, Miles, whom she shares with husband John Legend.
On Wednesday, the “Cravings” author took to Instagram to reveal that the 6-year-old has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
Teigen chose to share Miles’ diagnosis after fans noticed a monitor on his arm in a recent family photo from the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the picture, Miles was wearing a yellow shirt with an insulin pump visible on his arm.
“Miles had his arm up, and soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform. You noticed his type-1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was, and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community, already,” she wrote.
She explained that the diagnosis came after Miles was hospitalized for a severe case of shigella, during which doctors found irregularities in his blood tests. This led to the Type 1 diabetes diagnosis.
“After more testing, we learned he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime of T1,” Teigen said. “Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly.”
Teigen also expressed gratitude for the book “Year One with Type One,” which has been an invaluable resource for their family. The support and shared experiences from others have provided great comfort to Miles, reassuring him that he is not alone in this journey.
“This post is to thank you so much for your kindness. It helps Miles so much to know so many other people are going through the same thing and he is not alone,”
In addition to Miles, Teigen and her husband, John Legend, 45, are parents to three other children: Luna, 8, Wren Alexander, 13 months, and Esti Maxine, 18 months.
