Janet Jackson cannot get enough of motherhood. The 58-year-old opened up in a new interview with the BBC, saying that being a mother is the “most beautiful thing and that she “love[s] every single minute of it.”
Jackson became a mother to Eissa Al Mana in 2017. The multifaceted entertainer welcomed her now seven-year-old only child, with her ex-husband, Wissam Al Mana.
In a previous 4-part Lifetime documentary series, the Velvet Rope singer said that having a child was the biggest change in her life.
“The biggest change in my life is my son Eissa,” Jackson said at the time in the documentary. “He’s my heart, he’s my life. I don’t have as much rehearsal time because I have a son. A beautiful boy! … He’s my heart, he’s my life. … I love being a mother, I love my new job.”
Being what is now considered, “advanced maternal age,” Jackson gave birth to her son at the age of 50. Of course, there were naysayers commenting that she was too old to have a child. However, the Good Times alum did not let that dissuade her from trying over and over until she gave birth to her baby boy.
“They might say I was too old [when I had Eissa]. I say that’s bullcrap,” Jackson said. “It wasn’t easy. I kept trying and I kept trying and you know, this injection, that injection, doing this, going to a doctor in Italy, going to a doctor in Switzerland. It was a lot, I refused to give up and I have a beautiful, healthy boy because of it.”
Jackson tends to keep her son out of the public eye out of respect for her ex-husband. However, Eissa, according to the BBC interview, joined his mother at her New York City stop of her “Together Again” tour.
The Different Strokes alum shared that Eissa was “standing proudly at the side of the stage wearing ear defenders.”
The U.S. portion of Jackson’s tour will come to an end on July 30. She will embark upon the second leg, in the UK, starting in September. Hopefully, we will eventually get a glimpse of Eissa one day soon.
