Michael Strahan’s daughter Isabella Strahan is celebrating her 19th birthday, albeit six months after the actual date.
In a YouTube vlog posted on May 28, Isabella, alongside her friend Dallas and twin sister Sophia, made up for lost time by enjoying some sweet cupcake treats.
When it came time to blow out the candles on their cupcakes, the twins got a little help from dad Michael Strahan, who joined in by singing “Happy Birthday”.
Reflecting on the delayed celebration, Isabella chuckled, “We’re doing a little birthday celebration because I was not conscious for my 19th birthday. So we’re doing a little birthday thing about six months later.”
Last October, the 19-year-old underwent emergency surgery to remove a tumor in her cerebellum, causing her to miss her birthday festivities. The ordeal began with a frightening incident two days earlier that set off alarms.
“I woke up, probably at like, 1 p.m. I dreaded waking up. But I was throwing up blood,” Isabella recounted in a candid interview with ABC News back in January. “I was like, ‘Hm, this probably isn’t good.’ So I texted [my sister], who then notified the whole family.”
After seeking medical attention, doctors discovered she had developed a tumor the size of a golf ball in the back of her brain.
Michael Strahan learned the news before his daughter did. “I don’t really remember much,” he told ABC. “I just remember trying to figure out how to get to LA ASAP. And it just doesn’t feel real. It just didn’t feel real.”
Since that fateful day, Isabella has had to undergo radiation, three brain surgeries, and three rounds of chemotherapy.
In another recent Vlog, she expressed excitement about nearing the end of her chemotherapy treatments.
“I just want it to be June already,” she said. “That’s the thing, I just wait around for the next time I get chemo and I’m kind of scared once I’m done, how I’m gonna go back to normal life. Because I feel like there’s always gonna be another treatment or something I have to do. But that’s a later problem.”
