Garcelle Beauvais is navigating the delicate balance of supporting her son Jaid’s burgeoning modeling career while setting clear boundaries.
“It’s crazy. It’s so crazy to see,” she told PEOPLE. “We just did a photo shoot, and he was so cool and calm, and it was wild, you know? But I think it’s going to be good for him. He’s kind of shy, so I think this’ll help him.”
While she’s thrilled about her son’s career prospects, Garcelle is adamant about one thing: she doesn’t want to be his “momager.”
“He’s got the chops to do it, so it’ll be interesting. I don’t want to be his momager. I want him to figure it out. I need him to get his license though, so he can drive himself because I’m busy.”
Garcelle’s is careful about not encroaching on her sons’ space, especially after a recent incident showcased on the 13th season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
During the episode, her other twin son, Jax, expressed his desire for “more freedom,” to which Garcelle expressed that his desire to seek more independence wasn’t letting her parent him.
“That’s fair. I understand where you’re coming from, that you want to be more of a parent to us. But I needed that two years ago, instead of now,” Jax responded. “Most of the parenting and teaching me how to live, I know how to do all of that by myself.”
Beauvais and Jax ended up apologizing to each other. “I’m glad both of us can admit fault from the past and mature from that. I think I turned out fine,” Beauvais remarked.
Garcelle Beauvais welcomed her eldest, Oliver Saunders, with her ex-husband Daniel Saunders in 1991. After their split in 2000, she tied the knot with CAA agent Michael Nilon in 2001. The couple welcomed twin boys, Jax Joseph Nilon and Jaid Thomas Nilon, in 2007. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in 2011 due to Nilon’s infidelity
