A few months ago, it was announced that Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, made his decision to enter the 2024 NBA Draft. The 19-year-old USC freshman guard, will also enter the NCAA transfer portal as he explores his options. Many fans wonder, now that James is about to enter the NBA league himself, has he ever dreamed of playing with his father? Well, brace yourselves for a plot twist – the answer may surprise you, because it is a never!
I asked Bronny James if it’s his dream to play with his dad, LeBron James. He replied, “No, never. My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself, and get to the NBA, which is everyone’s end goal that’s here. Michael Scotto, Senior NBA Insider, Host of The HoopsHype Podcast, and writer for USA TODAY Sports, asked James in a recent interview about playing basketball with his father.
“I asked Bronny James if it’s his dream to play with his dad, LeBron James,” Scotto said.
“He replied, “No, never. My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself, and get to the NBA, which is everyone’s end goal that’s here. I never thought about just playing with my dad, but of course he’s brought it up a couple of times. But yeah, I don’t think about it much.”
Although Lebron himself has expressed, on several occasions, that he would like to play in the professional arena with his son, the 39-year-old father-of-two has quieted that desire publicly as his son has become more vocal about his own wishes for his professional career.
Although his has made a full recovery and was able to join his USC freshman team on the court, Bronny experienced a delay in joining his Trojan teammates on the court.
Back in July of 2023, the young athlete collapsed during practice, suffering a cardiac arrest. Doctors were about to deduce that Bronny’s health issues were caused by a congenital heart defect. After rehab and being under medical care, almost five months into the season, Bronny made his USC basketball debut.
The NBA draft is scheduled to take place June 26-27 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
