The mother-of-two captioned an image of herself on social media surrounded by her creations that she has coined the “Abundance Collection”.

“Happy Black Maternal Health Week! I have a couple announcements to make this week that I’m so excited about! I love to express my creativity in many ways, but I bet you didn’t know that I can sew! This #BlackMaternalHealthWeek I’m launching Baby Yams, a limited series of baby quilts that I can’t wait for you to see! Visit baby-yams.com (link in bio) & join the #BabyYamsFam to be first to hear about the launch!”

Ali’s support of Black Maternal Health Week comes in lieu of her own experience with the difficult delivery of her first child. After that, she became an advocate for Black mother reproductive justice and support.

On the official Baby Yams website, Ali writes, “We deserve care. We deserve loving, comprehensive reproductive and maternal health care. After the life-threatening delivery of my first baby boy, I started searching for answers. I found the reproductive justice movement and the Black midwife who helped me through my second pregnancy.”

“For the last 4 years, I’ve advocated in every way that I can. Now, I’ve created Baby Yams as a way for us to come together and provide the capital needed for this care. 100% of proceeds from each quilt will go to Black and Indigenous midwives and doulas uniquely positioned to give us the care we need.”

Ali isn’t the only celebrity that is raising funds in support of Black maternal health care. During Black Maternal Health Week, tennis legend Serena Williams also donated money from sales of her WYN Beauty products to the non-profit organization, 4Kira4Moms.

Although this year’s Black Maternal Health Week has come to an end, there is still time to purchase one of Ali’s Baby Yams “Abundance Collection” quilts. The quilts are fashioned with vibrant Ankara fabrics and are as unique and beautifully diverse as the community which they are geared to help.
