Disney‘s The Little Mermaid continues to reinvent itself with new interactions that keep fans clamoring for more. Expanding on the success of the most recent version of this cult classic, Disney Branded Television is taking on preschool with the new animated musical series, Disney Junior’s Ariel. And of course, the entertainment giant just dropped the official teaser trailer for the new project. And, we have it here for you to check out right now!
“For more than 30 years, the story of ‘The Little Mermaid’ has been beloved by audiences all over the world. It brings me so much joy to be able to introduce our new Disney Junior version of Ariel to preschoolers everywhere,” Disney Branded Television’s president, Ayo Davis said while making the announcement about the series during the Annecy International Film Festival in Annecy, France.
Alyssa Sapire, senior vice president of development, series and strategy for Disney Junior added, “As we were developing ‘Disney Junior’s Ariel,’ we knew that we wanted to create an atmosphere that was vibrant and magical and showcased our young Ariel’s imagination, which, like our preschool audience watching at home, is as big as the sea.”
Disney Junior’s Ariel will wash ashore this summer starring: Emmy Award-winner Mykal-Michelle Harris (Disney Channel’s, Raven’s Home) as Ariel and Broadway, film and television stars Taye Diggs (Rent) and Amber Riley (Glee) as King Triton and Ursula.
So, just what can preschoolers and their parents expect from this upcoming under-the-sea adventure? Well, take a look at a brief synopsis below.
Set in the fantastical Caribbean-inspired underwater kingdom of Atlantica, the series follows young mermaid princess Ariel as she embarks on fun-filled, action-packed mermaid adventures with her friends. It features fan-favorite characters, including King Triton, Ursula, Sebastian and Flounder, as well as exciting new additions like Ariel’s two best friends, mer-children Lucia and Fernie, and lots of other adorable sea creatures.
Disney Junior’s Ariel is executive produced by Lynne Southerland (Mulan II, Happily Ever After). The series will highlight the multicultural diversity of the Caribbean through music, food, festivals, fashion, language and folklore.
