RHOP STAR CANDIACE DILLARD BASSETT HAS “FEAR OF HAVING LIGHT-SKINNED CHILDREN”

The history of colorism began during slavery and has plagued the Black community for generations. Fast-forward to the present, and the practice of discrimination within the community is still as strong as ever as evident by recent controversial thoughts shared by Real Housewives of the Potomac star, Candiace Dillard Bassett. In a recent interview, Bassett shared that she has a “fear of having light-skinned children”.

While appearing on the Breakbeat Media podcast Don’t Call Me White Girl, Dillard Bassett revealed that she’s afraid of having light-skinned children.

“I do have a fear of having light-skinned children,” she said during the recent episode to host, Mona Love. “I want my kids to be brown. But they’re probably not gonna be brown. And I’m like, becoming okay with it. I want my kids to be brown. But if they’re not, it’s fine.”

If you are a fan of RHOP, then you know that Dillard Bassett is married to a Caucasian man, chef Chris Bassett. The singer and reality star has discussed the topic of skin tone and complexion on several occasions throughout this season in particular, this year. She has alleged that she’s been vilified by the Bravo reality series’s fans as a result of her complexion.

Dillard Bassett went on to say that she didn’t think about having “swirly babies” when she met her husband, but, she’s resigning to “whatever happens happens”.

“Whatever happens happens,” she said. “But I didn’t think about [that] when I was falling in love and like ‘Oh this is my husband. Oh wait I’m gonna have these swirly babies.’”

Dillard Bassett and her husband do not yet have any children of their own; however, she is stepmother to Chris’s three children from previous relationships.

In a recent exclusive interview with People Magazine, Dillard Bassett shared that she not return for a new season of the show that she has been a part of since 2018.

“As I embark on a new chapter after six remarkable years with The Real Housewives of the Potomac, I am filled with gratitude for the enriching friendships, personal growth, and moments of introspection that have defined this journey, she told the outlet. “With a whirlwind of new opportunities and responsibilities on my plate, I have decided to take a break from RHOP.”

She concluded, “This is not farewell, but a ‘see you later.’”

We have a feeling that there is much, much more to come from Candace. And we will definitely be on baby watch for she and her husband.
