Congratulations are definitely in order for actor, Micah Abbey. It has just been announced that the sixteen-year-old and his castmates from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie are about to reprise their roles in a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series, Tales of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
This new series, which will debut on Paramount+ this summer, is also a product of Nickelodeon Animation and Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures production company.
So, just what new adventures await fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe with this upcoming series? Well, check out a brief synopsis from JustJaredJr.com below.
“The new series will explore the adventures of everyone’s favorite pizza-loving heroes as they emerge from the sewers onto the streets of NYC. Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey are faced with new threats and team up with old allies to survive both teenage life and villains lurking in the shadows of the Big Apple.”
In addition to Abbey reprising his role as the brilliant Donatello, Sahomn Brown Jr. is back as the jokester, Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu is back as the fearless leader Leonardo, and Brady Noon is back as the rebel Raphael. And of course, returning to round out the crime-fighting team is Ayo Edebiri, as reporter April O’Neil.
But wait there is more! As if the upcoming television series isn’t enough for turtles fans, a sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is in the works.
“In the nearly 40 years since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles launched into the zeitgeist, it has entertained generations of fans and only continues to grow,” Paramount and Nickelodeon chief Brian Robbins said in a statement about continuing the TMNT universe legacy. “We are excited to grow TMNT’s legacy in partnership with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg at Point Grey, and Jeff Rowe, who are innovating the franchise with their singular brand of humor and elevated storytelling for audiences everywhere, across virtually every platform.”
Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation & Nickelodeon Animation, added, “Reinvigorating this franchise has been years in the making, and we are thrilled to continue expanding the beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe and bringing new adventures to families and fans.”
If by some chance, you are not familiar with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle universe, the turtles were originally created by comic book artists Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. The initial premise of TMNT follows four turtle brothers who were trained in ninjutsu to fight evil in New York City. Along the way, the turtles make human friends in news reporter April O’Neal and vigilante Casey Jones. The motley crew spend their time fighting not only crime, but their archenemy, Shredder.
