Dora the Explorer and all of her magical friends are about to hit the big screen. In an original theatrical short, playing ahead of the upcoming PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, the beloved Latina explorer will make her animated theatrical debut in Dora and the Fantastical Creatures.

So just what can fans expect from the upcoming short? Well, according to a press release from Nickelodeon, here is a brief synopsis of what movie-goers can expect.

In Dora and the Fantastical Creatures, Dora (Diana Zermeño) and Boots (Asher Spence) embark on an incredible adventure to the land of alebrijes, the most magical and colorful creatures in the rainforest. There, they must band together against Swiper (Marc Weiner) to save the beloved alebrijes and their Copal Tree Celebration. The short film also features:  Anairis Quiñones as Luna Arcoiris; Danny Burstein as Sol; and Kate del Castillo as Ale.

Following the debut of Dora and the Fantastical Creatures, additional Dora content will also be available across Nickelodeon platforms, Paramount+ and Noggin.

If you are not familiar with Dora The Explorer, let’s take a trip back to 2000-2019, when the original series was on Nickelodeon. Children everywhere were obsessed with following the adventures of seven-year-old Dora Márquez, her talking purple backpack, and her anthropomorphic monkey named Boots. Each adventure was based upon the trio having to solve problems in order to move forward on their travels with help from the viewing audience. And of course, everyone was able to take part-in and enjoy the Spanish language lesson of the day.

So, get ready to count once again in español, and hear Dora tell Swiper at least three times, “Swiper, no swiping!” However, the upcoming short will not be all of the Dora that we will get. The adventurous heroine will return to the small screen in an all new Dora series, debuting on Paramout+ in the Spring of 2024.

Dora and the Fantastical Creatures is set to debut, exclusively in theaters on September 29, 2023.
