Hoda Kotb reflects on “magical” Mexican vacation with daughters. The 51-year-old, her sister, and daughters went down south just to “have fun”!
On a recent episode of TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, the mother-of-two and her 41-year-old co-host reminisced about their recent vacations.
Kotb started off telling Bush Hager that, “I had a great trip with my kids. Took them with my sister, we just went to Mexico for fun.”
She continued, “And let me tell you something, it was magical. It was one of those vacations you take and you say to yourself, ‘If they can all be like this.’ And this doesn’t happen, we have our fair share of meltdowns. Everybody was happy, everybody was healthy, everybody was — it was one of those that you just said, ‘Thank you.’ We’re all here, we all feel good.”
Their Mexican vacation wasn’t the only memorable moment for Kotb and her daughters this summer. The popular host said that her youngest, four-year-old Hope Catherine, recently opened the door to both of them having a teachable moment. She told Hager that Hope called her out for breaking one of her rules.
“[She] asked me, ‘Mom, how come you use the tone of voice you tell us not to use? How come you use it on us sometimes?’ ” Kotb told Bush Hager.
Kotb told the former first daughter that the question caught her off guard.
“I was like, ‘Oh.’ And you just realize …” she said. “I said, ‘Well, sometimes I use that tone because it’s very serious. I really want you to listen, okay? It’s a serious matter. It’s not like the fun stuff. When I use that tone it’s because it’s serious.”
Kotb said that it was good to have that conversation when “everything’s not crying and chaos.”
She went on to say that, “Yeah, sometimes we have to do that. And [my daughters] were like, ‘Yeah, but you tell us not to.’ And they’re laughing and joking around.”
She concluded telling her co-host that, “what we say [as parents] comes echoing right back to us.”
Kotb shares her two daughters, four-year-old Hope Catherine and six-year-old Haley Joy with ex, Joel Schiffman.
