As summer is winding down, there are a few nights left for family movie night and Netflix has just debuted the trailer for, The Monkey King, and we are sure that it will quickly hit the number one spot.
So, just what can fans of ? expect from this upcoming animated movie? Well, below is a brief synopsis of what to expect from Deadline.com.
With animation and imagery by ReelFX, The Monkey King is a family action-family comedy that follows a rebellious and charismatic Monkey and his magical fighting Stick on an epic quest for victory over 100 demons, an eccentric Dragon King, and Monkey’s greatest foe of all —his own ego. Along the way, a young village girl challenges his self-centered attitude and shows him that even the smallest pebble can have a big effect on the world.
According to what-on-netflix.com, The Monkey King is an adaptation of 16th-century Chinese tale, Journey to the West. The project is an animated Netflix original that will be directed by Anthony Stacchi (The Boxtrolls, Open Season) and is written by Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman. Peilin Chou (Over the Moon, Abominable), will produce the project, while Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer), will serve as executive producer.
“The Monkey King has endured for generations with his unique character and spirit,” Chow said in a recent interview.
He continued, “I’m so excited to be collaborating with Tony, Peilin, and everyone at Netflix to bring this joyful tale to audiences worldwide!”
The Monkey King was the first announced in 2017 alongside five other feature film projects from Pearl Studio. Pearl Studio is a subsidiary of DreamWorks Animation, founded in 2012. Pearl Studio has worked on projects such as the fan favorite, Kung Fu Panda. For Netflix, the studio worked on Over the Moon.
The Monkey King will hit the streaming giant on August 18th.
